As many of you know, my book, Damaged Heritage, The Elaine Race Massacre and A Story of Reconciliation, was selected for the Library of Congress Shop – only a few books are so honored. I was recently informed that Damaged Heritage had been on display at the Johnson House Historic Site on Juneteenth. (See Attached Photograph). The Johnson House Historic Site in Philadelphia, a National Historic Landmark, is famously known as one of the only documented, intact Underground Railroad stops now open to the public; the Johnson House sheltered many escaping, former slaves and abolitionists like Harriet Tubman. Historical records indicate that Tubman also helped to shelter and feed other freedom seekers she guided out of slavery at the Johnson House. Over 80 formerly enslaved people escaping bondage were hid in the House’s crawl spaces and attics. The Johnson House Historic Site hosts community events and the annual Philadelphia Juneteenth.
